Wlodzimierz Borowski, Arton B, 1958

" After his studies of art history at the Catholic University of Lublin (1952—55) Borowski, inspired by musical experiences, started to deal with practical issues of painting composition. Experiences in the area of plastic arts led him soon to exceed the traditional framework of the discipline. In 1958 Borowski constructed his first Artons — organic forms called to exist independently and provided in ability of reacting to external factors. His following actions, performances, manifestations, installations and environments, as well as lectures and seminars are prove that the artist was truly interested in cybernetics, technological and sensorial interactions and various possibilities of creating artificial life. Since the seventies the artist’s experiences have included also the issues of recording visual perception and intellectual processes that take part in esthetical experience. He was dealing also with the issues of form in space, the deformation and openness of space, syncretism, thematic representation of real situation and the ephemeral character of the trace. " [1]

" [In the years 1955-1960] I was fascinated with natural sciences, their experiments and attempts of creating artificial life. I was interested in cybernetics and the beginnings of the computer. I have even tended to realise a creator’s dream, trying to create forms/creatures devoted to live an independent life. My creatures were provided with electromagnetic systems that enable them to react spontaneously to air movements, changing their form and emitting light. I have called them Artons. "[2]

" Po studiach historii sztuki (1952—55) w Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim, inspirowany doswiadczeniem muzycznym, podejmuje praktyczny problem kompozycji malarskiej. Doswiadczenia w zakresie sztuk plastycznych prowadza bardzo szybko do przekroczenia tradycyjnych ram dyscyplinarnych i w 1958 Borowski konstruuje pierwsze Artony — formy organiczne powolane do niezaleznej egzystencji, wyposazone w zdolnosc reagowania na czynniki zewnetrzne. Kolejne akcje, performance, manifestacje, instalacje i environnement, a takze wyklady i seminaria swiadcza o zainteresowaniu artysty domena cybernetyki, interakcji technologicznej i sensorialnej i mozliwosciami tworzenia sztucznego zycia. Od lat 70. doswiadczenia artysty obejmuja równiez problematyke metody zapisu procesów intelektualnych oraz procesu postrzegania doswiadczenia wizualnego, bioracych udzial w przezyciu estetycznym, a takze problematyki formy w przestrzeni, deformacji i otwarcia przestrzeni, synkretyzmu, tematyzacji sytuacji rzeczywistej i efemerycznosci sladu. "[1]

" [W latach 1955-1960] Bylem zafascynowany naukami przyrodniczymi, próbami tworzenia sztucznego zycia i doswiadczeniami z tej dziedziny. Interesowalem sie cybernetyka i poczatkami komputera. Sam tez dazylem do realizacji marzenia demiurga, próbujac tworzyc formy-kreatury przeznaczone do niezaleznego zycia. Wyposazane w systemy elektromagnetyczne, moje twory posiadaly zdolnosc spontanicznego reagowania na ruch powietrza, poprzez zmiane formy i emisje swiatla. Nazywalem je Artony. " [2]
