Janusz Bakowski, Róza (The Rose), 1973. [Photographic series (serie fotograficzne) 37x37, 78x78, 90x90 cm]

The first plane presents a picture of a blossoming flower, which the artist used to make an interpretation of the theme of whirling. The following two photographic planes have been made from correspondingly four and five output prints, cut and ordered according to the mathematical pattern that had been worked out by the artist especially for the needs of this photographic work. Thanks to the use the mathematical organisation in ordering the photographic material, the impression of whirl movement has been enhanced.

Pierwsza plaszczyzna przedstawia fotografie rozwinietego kwiatu rózy, która posluzyla artyscie do stworzenia interpretacji tematu wirowania. Nastepne dwie plaszczyzny fotograficzne zostaly skonstruowane kolejno z czterech i pieciu odbitek wyjsciowych pocietych i uporzadkowanych wedlug schematu matematycznego opracowanego przez artyste specjalnie dla tej wlasnie pracy fotograficznej. Dzieki zastosowaniu matematycznej organizacji materialu zdjeciowego wrazenie ruchu wirowego zostalo spotegowane.

In his creation Janusz Bakowski (1922-2005) has investigated the issues of perceiving the reality, making experiments on the changes of perception. At first Bakowski’s actions were to prove the subjectivism of perceiving the same theme. Later, with the use of variants and various methods of multiplication, he would obtain a variety of ways of perception, leaving the very theme undisturbed. Since his entrance to the world of experimental photography (in 1968), his most frequent way of work was the use of photographic prints as an output material for further processing. Only from that material he organised the resulting construction/picture. The analysis of the picture/matrix has led the artist to working out a logic system of decomposition and reassembling the photographic print. Each work has been realised according to another pattern of deconstruction and reassembling worked out correspondingly to the theme presented in the picture and to the issue taken in investigations.

Fotograficzne dzialania Bakowskiego poczatkowo mialy dowodzic subiektywizmu postrzegania tego samego tematu. Pózniej, poprzez wariantowosc i metody multiplikacji autor uzyskiwal róznorodnosc postrzegania, pozostawiajac sam temat nienaruszony. Od momentu wejscia na teren fotografii eksperymentalnej (od 1968) najczesciej stosowanym przez artyste zabiegiem bylo wykorzystywanie odbitki fotograficznej jako materialu wyjsciowego. Dopiero z niej lub jej wielokrotnosci powstawal konstrukcyjny obraz. Analiza zdjecia-matrycy prowadzila artyste do opracowania logicznego systemu podzialu i ponownego montazu odbitki fotograficznej. Kazda praca posiadala inny schemat dekonstrukcji i montazu opracowany odpowiednio do przedstawionego na zdjeciu tematu i podjetego problemu.
